ABOUT CAMPBELL WELLNESS
Campbell Wellness, a socially conscious company dedicated to the message of plant-based nutrition, has created a social network at Wholevana.
What is the Wholevana community?
The theme of Wholevana is simple: we foster human relationships around an idea that is deeply meaningful to everyone on the planet, and to the planet itself. Our web platform lets people everywhere participate in building a real community, one rooted in our workplaces, neighborhoods, and places of worship, and committed to the most empowering idea of our time.
What makes us different?
For the most part, past efforts to promote plant-based nutrition have followed the same formula. They are often branded as “diet” programs and centered on a key personality. We have no interest in this kind of approach. Plant-based nutrition is not a diet and not unique to any one of us—it is simply, Nature.
Here is what we are about: we are providing a platform that empowers individuals to take charge of their health and to spread the message of plant-based nutrition to others. We want to empower people everywhere to be the hero in their own lives first, then in the lives of the ones they love and in their larger communities.
And we respect your privacy. We will not share your personal information with other companies, and we will protect your privacy within our community. Allowing other people in your network to direct unwanted photos and ads into your space, informing the people who send messages to you whether you have read their message, and other similar intrusions are not allowed in our community.
How did we come up with the name “Wholevana”?
In considering a domain name, our first impulse was to play off the title of Dr. Campbell’s book, “Whole.” And we like the concept of “whole” because we have built a social networking platform that fosters a community to support people as they embark on a journey toward better health.
Then, from this first impulse, we created the word “Wholevana.” Not only does this word roll off the tongue well, there is relevant meaning behind it. “Vana” in ancient Sanskrit means “forest.” So this word literally means “the whole forest.”
When I was a kid growing up, the idiom my siblings and I heard from my father more than any other was his complaint that people tended “not to see the forest for the trees.” Perhaps because he grew up a country boy spending many hours in the fields and forests, he loved this idiom about the forest and trees.
This “whole forest” concept is a good metaphor for what we are doing. Within the forest is much complexity and change, but there is also a connection that binds all the trees and their friends—the animals, soil, microorganisms, and air—into an unbroken whole. This bond is the essence of our community and health message.
